21-Year-Old From New London Faces New Charges In Alleged Sexual Assault Of 14-Year-Old

PLAINFIELD — Luis Diaz, 21, of New London, was arrested Friday after a warrant was issued in connection with an alleged sexual assault of a 14-year-old, Plainfield police said. Diaz now faces several counts tied to the investigation.

Authorities charged Diaz with second-degree sexual assault, risk of injury to a child, illegal sexual contact and possession of child sexual abuse material. He remains in custody on a $125,000 bond pending an arraignment scheduled Monday at state Superior Court in Danielson.

“We will continue to investigate and pursue charges to protect the community and ensure justice for the victim,” said the Plainfield Police Department in its public post.

Investigation details and evidence

Investigators say the alleged abuse took place between October and December of last year, with the most recent incident occurring in Plainfield. The case unfolded after detectives gathered enough evidence to obtain an arrest warrant.

Search of residence and digital evidence

As part of the probe, police searched a Third Street residence where Diaz had been living and seized his cellphone. Officers later found child sexual abuse material on the device along with other items described as evidence connected to the investigation.

The discovery of material on the phone led to the possession charge in addition to the assault-related counts.

Previous arrest and next steps in court

This is not Diaz’s first run-in with local authorities — court records show he was arrested in April by Plainfield police on charges that included second-degree sexual assault, risk of injury to a child and illegal sexual contact.

Diaz is due to appear at the state Superior Court in Danielson on Monday for arraignment. The case remains under investigation by Plainfield police, and officials have not released additional public comments beyond their initial announcement.
