Ronda Rousey, former WWE superstar, recently voiced her discontent with how WWE handled her initial run in the wrestling world, a sentiment that didn't sit well with AEW's MJF (Maxwell Jacob Friedman). Rousey’s sharp criticism targeted her feud with Alexa Bliss, which she labeled as "f*****g ridiculous." She questioned the logic behind her booking, stating it was based purely on merchandise sales rather than competitive merit.
“It’s almost like pro wrestling, much like any professional sport, functions as a business,” the former AEW World Champion said. “F*****g crazy [exploding head emoji].”
MJF's biting retort came swiftly on X, formerly known as Twitter, highlighting the business aspect of professional wrestling. His sarcastic comment underscores the reality that decisions in the wrestling industry often revolve around financial considerations, much like any other sport.
Rousey’s frustration stems from her early WWE days, despite a strong start. Her debut title win came against Bliss at SummerSlam 2018, where she showcased her dominance. Even though Bliss had a rematch, Rousey retained her championship for an impressive 231 days before dropping it to Becky Lynch at WrestleMania 35.
After a hiatus, Rousey’s 2022 return saw mixed results. She clinched the SmackDown Women’s Championship from Charlotte Flair, but her reign was short-lived, ending after 55 days when Liv Morgan cashed in her Money in the Bank contract. Rousey later regained the title at Extreme Rules, only to lose it again after 83 days to a returning Flair.
Rousey eventually teamed up with Shayna Baszler, capturing the Women’s Tag Team Championship. However, their reign was brief, lasting just 32 days before losing to Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez. This partnership turned into a feud with Baszler, culminating in an "MMA Rules" match at SummerSlam 2023.
While Rousey’s vocal dissatisfaction with WWE’s booking decisions is clear, it’s evident that her journey through the wrestling landscape has been a rollercoaster of highs and lows, marked by both triumphs and challenges.
