AI Obsession Leads to Jail Time

In a disturbing case that highlights the dangers of emerging technology, Callum Wray, a 25-year-old from Billingham, is set to serve three years in prison. Wray was convicted at Teesside Crown Court for creating indecent images of a teenage girl using AI and for impersonating her online. This marks a grim continuation of his previous offenses.

Wray's obsession with the 15-year-old led him to superimpose her photographs into explicit images, which he used to establish fake profiles. Despite receiving a suspended sentence earlier, Wray resumed his offenses, much to the frustration of the victim, who expressed her distress over his relentless actions.

Violations and Consequences

The court was informed about Wray's multiple breaches of legal orders. Prosecutor Kathryn Wetherley detailed how Wray had violated a sexual harm prevention order (SHPO) and a restraining order by contacting the girl online. On June 20, 2025, it was discovered that Wray had set up new accounts, posing as the girl once again.

Upon searching his home, police found that Wray had deleted crucial evidence and breached his SHPO by maintaining profiles on 27 social media apps. Disturbingly, police also unearthed 19 indecent images of children, with some as young as two years old.

Victim's Statement

“I don't understand why he is doing this,” the girl said, adding she was terrified of him and he was “clearly obsessed” with her.

The teenager expressed her fear and frustration in a statement, noting that Wray's actions have profoundly impacted her life and that she feels unsafe. She also voiced her disappointment in the initial suspended sentence, fearing that Wray’s escalation in behavior could endanger her and her family.

Legal Proceedings

During police interviews, Wray admitted to his obsession and explained his use of AI to manipulate images of the girl. This latest sentencing aims to curb his harmful actions and provide some relief to his victim, who has been tormented by his fixation.
