In a dramatic conclusion to a heart-wrenching case, Devin Vasquez-Pacheco, a 20-year-old from Austin, was sentenced to 50 years behind bars. The decision came on January 16, following an intense three-day hearing at the Williamson County courthouse. Vasquez-Pacheco was found guilty of murdering Adrian Murillo Curiel, a 16-year-old from Cedar Park.
The courtroom was filled with tension as the sentence was read, marking the end of a legal process that had the community on edge. Vasquez-Pacheco's conviction brings some closure to the family and friends of the young victim, whose life was tragically cut short.
“This sentence reflects the severity of the crime and the impact on the family and community,” commented a representative from the District Attorney's Office.
Alongside Vasquez-Pacheco, the case involved two others: Stephen Sanchez, Jr. and Xelso Mora-Vasquez. Both co-defendants had previously entered guilty pleas, with Sanchez admitting guilt on March 19, 2024, and Mora-Vasquez following suit on June 17, 2024. Their involvement in the case further underscores the complex web of circumstances surrounding Curiel's death.
