Charity Controversy Unveiled

Catholic Charities of New Mexico (CCCNM) has landed in hot water after reportedly promoting Planned Parenthood events and transgender-focused activities aimed at teenagers. The allegations have raised eyebrows and voices among pro-life groups, particularly the New Mexico Alliance for Life (NMA4L), which is demanding accountability.

In a pointed statement, NMA4L criticized the charity's actions, calling them a "blatant, reckless promotion of evil." The group highlighted the "Lavender Prom" by TeenMP, an event that reportedly featured activities like "Super Smash Bros." sex-ed games and offered free rapid HIV testing. Concerns were also raised over movie screenings at these events, which allegedly included films with sexually explicit content.

“There is no excuse for this blatant, reckless promotion of evil, especially among children… There must be accountability from the top down.”

Events Under Scrutiny

The events promoted allegedly by CCCNM also included a now-deleted post celebrating "Trans Day of Visibility" on March 31, sparking further debate. Critics argue that the charity's promotion of such events during Holy Week is particularly troubling, pointing to what they see as a misalignment with Catholic teachings.

Planned Parenthood’s involvement in these events has drawn additional criticism, especially given the organization's history and its role in the sex education of minors. NMA4L described the promotion by CCCNM as not only an attack on Catholic doctrine but also a potential risk to minors, who might find themselves in predatory situations.

Broader Implications

This isn’t an isolated incident. Across the country, Planned Parenthood has come under fire for its youth-targeted programs. For instance, Planned Parenthood of Greater Ohio recently launched the 'Queer in Canton' center, which includes services for both youth and adults, stirring similar controversies.

Elisa Martinez, Executive Director of NMA4L, has called the social promotions “shocking and sacrilegious behavior,” urging for a leadership change within Catholic Charities NM. The organization is pushing for decisive action to ensure accountability and to prevent what they see as further deviations from Catholic teachings.
