The Los Angeles Clippers are taking a bold approach to their training camp this year, inspired by their first-round playoff exit against the Denver Nuggets in 2025. After reflecting on their performance, the Clippers identified opponent's offensive rebounds and transition points given up as key areas for improvement. Assistant coach Jeff Van Gundy decided to make these priorities crystal clear by creating attention-grabbing shirts for the coaching staff.
The shirts, emblazoned with "Get The F**k Back," drive home the importance of floor balance, urgency, consistent communication and concentration, and the painful memory of losing to Denver in transition. The statement-making shirts emphasize the determination to turn lessons from the past into victories in the future.
As the Denver Nuggets traveled to Los Angeles for a preseason game at the Intuit Dome, it was their first visit since their decisive Game 7 win. Nuggets head coach David Adelman, when queried about the Clippers' T-shirts, took it in stride, acknowledging the underlying respect implicit in the gesture.
“I mean, they're cool t-shirts,” Adelman said. “When I saw it, I immediately thought of what we felt after the OKC series. It's impactful for them, defining why they weren't in round two. It's their thing, and I understand that feeling.”
Adelman's candid response highlights the shared experiences teams go through when reflecting on the highs and lows of intense playoff competition.
Both teams have been busy in the offseason, aiming for better outcomes in the next playoff run. The Nuggets, learning from their own setbacks, bolstered their lineup by trading for Cam Johnson and Jonas Valanciunas, and signing Bruce Brown, though it meant parting with Michael Porter Jr.
For the Clippers, the addition of seasoned players like John Collins, Brook Lopez, Bradley Beal, and Chris Paul reflects their strategy to address last season's shortcomings. Only time will tell if these moves translate into championship success, but the resolve is clear on both sides.
