When it comes to dating, Dakota Johnson keeps things refreshingly straightforward. The "Fifty Shades" star recently shared her one relationship nonnegotiable during a lively appearance on TODAY, where she was promoting her latest film, "Materialists," alongside co-star Chris Evans.
In the romantic drama "Materialists," Johnson plays a matchmaker caught in a love triangle with characters portrayed by Pedro Pascal and Chris Evans. While discussing the film, TODAY's Craig Melvin was curious about any deal breakers for the two stars when describing their ideal match to a matchmaker.
"I would say must love dogs. Gotta love dogs. If you're not a dog person, what are we doing?" Evans joked, to which Craig teased, "Well, Dakota, you check that box." Johnson didn't miss a beat with her candid response: "Like, not an a------." Her cheeky remark left the TODAY crew in stitches and Evans chuckling in agreement, adding, "That's concise."
“That’s the only nonnegotiable,” Craig said. “Nail on the head,” Evans echoed with a smile.
In "Materialists," Johnson's character, Lucy, is a focused professional adept at matchmaking for others but struggling in her love life. Describing her character, Johnson noted, "Lucy's journey throughout the movie is about realizing what's genuinely important in life." Evans chimed in, highlighting the film's theme of modern love, "It's more about how some of the social norms that may have kept marriages together in our parents' generations have kind of eroded over time."
As the conversation wrapped up, Johnson left viewers with a thoughtful takeaway. "I would love for people to consider living authentically and really looking deep within for what they truly want," she expressed, leaving a lasting impression with her blend of humor and sincerity.
