A New Era for Streaming: Hulu Merges with Disney+

Disney has unveiled plans to phase out Hulu as a separate app, rolling it into a single, all-encompassing Disney+ app by 2026. While the standalone Hulu app will vanish, the brand lives on within Disney+ as "Hulu on Disney+," continuing to offer general entertainment and adult-focused content.

This transition means users won’t lose their beloved Hulu content. Instead, they’ll access their subscriptions via the updated Disney+ app. The move coincides with a price increase across Disney’s streaming services and the upcoming launch of the true-crime miniseries, “Murdaugh: Death in the Family.”

What Subscribers Can Expect

The integration comes hand-in-hand with promises from Disney CEO Bob Iger and CFO Hugh Johnston of an “improved consumer experience.” According to Variety, the duo assures customers will enjoy “tremendous choice, convenience, quality, and enhanced personalization.”

“Our goal is to create a seamless user experience that elevates our brand globally,” Iger said, emphasizing the potential for new growth and profitability.

Subscribers will soon spot a new Hulu tab within their Disney+ app, alongside a “For You” section featuring tailored recommendations from Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN.

The Future of the Disney Streaming Landscape

This strategic shift will see the international “Star” brand replaced by Hulu within Disney+, setting the stage for a more unified global general entertainment offering. The planned changes reflect Disney's ambition to streamline its services and leverage its popular brands for greater appeal and market reach.

With updates rolling out in the coming weeks, subscribers are encouraged to sign up for Disney+ online to stay ahead of the curve.
