Ellie Dubaich made quite the entrance on Below Deck Down Under Season 4, Episode 5, sparking chatter with her daring conversation starter. On her first night out with the yacht crew, Ellie threw a curveball with a not-so-typical ice-breaker question that left her colleagues speechless. "Let’s get to know each other for real," she proposed, before dropping the bombshell: "Ladies, this question is for you. How many squirters do we have on board?"
Reactions were mixed. Chief Stew Daisy Kelliher was visibly taken aback, while Jenna Woudberg questioned the appropriateness of the conversation. Other crew members, like deckhand Betul Yazici, seemed more interested in getting to know Ellie's background than answering her provocative question. "We just got here," Betul noted, expressing a desire to learn more about Ellie's experiences instead.
Ellie later explained her reasoning during the Below Deck Down Under After Show. The audacious question was meant to gauge the crew's vibe and sense of humor. "You’re able to suss out what type of people you’re dealing with," Ellie said. "If people laugh and they’re lighthearted about it, I feel like, ‘Okay, these are my people.’ But this group, they were all like clutching their pearls."
“But this group, they were all like clutching their pearls, like, ‘Oh my god, squirting, what!? ... They were not matching my vibe.”
Despite the initial surprise, Ellie’s candidness opened the door to some deeper conversations on deck.
Ellie’s boldness didn't stop at conversation. Deck/stew Mike Durrant was quick to make his interest known, complimenting her during a night out. The chemistry was palpable, leading to a flirtatious exchange and a quick peck between the two. Mike was upfront about his intentions, saying, "I’m in no rush." However, Ellie admitted, "All you get is a peck!"
Reflecting on the night, Mike shared his thoughts during the After Show, acknowledging the chemistry they shared. Ellie echoed this sentiment, although she refrained from joining the crew in the hot tub later, joking that staying might have led to unexpected sleepover plans.
While Mike caught Ellie's attention, her heart seemed to drift towards another crew member. She confessed her interest in second officer João Franco, whom she described as her ideal type. "My type of guy is big muscle, a Viking, manly man. Basically, João," Ellie revealed. However, she admitted that she prefers being pursued rather than doing the pursuing.
João, on the other hand, had his own challenges to face, including special requests from The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City cast, which he candidly addressed.
