Author's Work Crosses Legal Lines

Lauren Ashley Mastrosa, known to readers as Tori Woods, has been found guilty on three charges related to child abuse material. The verdict, delivered by Magistrate Bree Chisholm at Blacktown Local Court in western Sydney, was centered on her provocative novel, "Daddy's Little Toy." The book, published online as a pre-release in March, depicted inappropriate sexual scenarios that led to the author's conviction.

Mastrosa’s story revolves around Lucy, an 18-year-old engaged in role-playing with Arthur, her father's older friend. Despite Lucy's stated age in the manuscript, the court found the narrative implied she was a child. Chisholm highlighted the problematic depiction, stating, "I do not accept the submission that the character is not implied to be a child."

Court Dismisses Author's Defense

The author, who also works as a marketing executive for a Christian charity, argued that her work was adult fiction. However, the court focused on the sexualization of the protagonist, which was central to the storyline. The book's illustrative cover and detailed descriptions were noted as reinforcing the perception that the character was a child. "A child's sexualization is the central storyline – both the detail and the book's illustrated cover support that the object of desire is a child," Magistrate Chisholm asserted.

"The language is repeated again and again," Chisholm added, referring to the novel's use of childlike language during explicit scenes.

Graphic Details Seal Conviction

Prosecutors highlighted various elements of the book, such as Lucy's childlike behaviors, including tantrums, needing a bath, and diaper changes. These descriptions, coupled with childlike language such as "wee wee," led the court to determine the novel depicted illegal sexual conduct between a child and an adult, ultimately finding it "undeniably offensive" to the average reader. The book's pink cover, adorned with alphabet blocks spelling out the title, was another incriminating factor in the case.
