Soaring for a Cause

Laura Hiscox, a dedicated digital communications officer with Hywel Dda Health Board, is preparing to take a literal leap of faith. She's set to skydive in hopes of raising £350 for the Enlli Ward, the adult mental health unit at Bronglais Hospital. Her mission? To improve patient care by providing essential resources that enhance comfort and connection.

Living in Ceredigion with her two daughters, aged nine and 12, Laura wants to show them that their mum is just as adventurous as their dad. "I am going to take on a skydive," she announced, reminiscing about her past thrill on the world's longest zip line. This upcoming endeavor, scheduled for April 18 at Swansea Airport, represents her next big challenge.

Inspiring Generosity Through Personal Connection

Having worked closely with the healthcare community, Laura has witnessed firsthand the uplifting impact that music and resources can have on patients. "I was in the ward last year filming the Forget Me Not singing session," she shared, recalling the patients' joy as they sang along, transforming the ward with their smiles.

“This challenge is my way of doing something practical and meaningful to support those who need it.”

Her commitment is also deeply personal. The loss of a neighbor to dementia and the ongoing battles of friends and community members with Alzheimer's have touched her life significantly, fueling her desire to make a difference. "By fundraising, I hope to contribute to resources that help people feel more settled, connected, and cared for during a difficult time in their lives," she explained.

A Gratitude Call from Hywel Dda

Laura's efforts haven't gone unnoticed. Claire Rumble, fundraising officer for Hywel Dda Health Charities, extended a heartfelt thanks to Laura for her dedication. "Every single donation we receive makes a huge difference to the health, wellbeing, and experience of our patients, their families, and staff members," Claire noted, highlighting the significance of community-driven support.

With her sights set on April 18, Laura is not only preparing for an exhilarating adventure but also setting an inspiring example of courage and compassion for her daughters and the community at large. Her sky-high leap will undoubtedly leave a lasting impact on those she aims to help.
