Former Marshal's Arrest Rocks New Britain

The city of New Britain was left in shock when officials announced the arrest of a former Connecticut judicial marshal on serious charges of child exploitation. Joseph Cerruto, a 27-year-old resident of New Britain, was taken into custody on July 14 after an investigation revealed he was in possession of child sexual abuse material.

Investigation and Arrest

New Britain spokesperson Alisha Rayner detailed the course of the investigation, stating it began back in May after authorities received an anonymous cyber tip. "Police were granted and executed a search warrant prior to Cerruto being taken into custody," Rayner confirmed. Cerruto was then transported to police headquarters, where he was fingerprinted and processed without incident.

“The swift action taken by law enforcement highlights the importance of cybersecurity in protecting the vulnerable,” Rayner added.

Charges and Employment History

Cerruto now faces multiple charges, including first-degree possession of child sexual abuse material, enticing a minor via computer, misrepresentation of age to entice a minor, and risk of injury. Before his arrest, he served as a judicial marshal in the Waterbury Judicial District, safeguarding the courthouse. His tenure in the position began on November 2, 2023, and ended with his resignation on July 13, just a day before the arrest.

The case has underscored the need for vigilance and quick action within communities to protect minors and hold individuals accountable for such grave offenses.
