Channel 4's Star-Studded Drama Alert

Get ready, drama lovers! Channel 4 is gearing up to air "Trespasses," a highly anticipated series based on Louise Kennedy’s breakout debut novel. Brimming with talent, the show promises a compelling narrative set against a richly textured backdrop. This autumn, viewers can immerse themselves in a story that blends intrigue and emotional depth, driven by a cast that includes the ever-talented Gillian Anderson.

A Novel Adaptation That Dazzles

"Trespasses" is not just another book-to-screen adaptation. Written by Ailbhe Keogan, marking her first lead writing credit, and directed by BAFTA winner Dawn Shadforth, the series brings Kennedy’s 2023 Women’s Prize-shortlisted novel to life. The drama unfolds in 1975, in a town near Belfast, capturing the tension and allure of an era fraught with political strife and personal dilemmas.

“I fell in love with Louise’s stunning book when I read it in proof," Anderson revealed. "I was immediately drawn to the tragi-comic creation that is Gina and couldn’t resist when Louise asked me to play her."

Meet the Characters

At the heart of "Trespasses" is Cushla, portrayed by Lola Petticrew, a vibrant young woman caught in the grind of daily life. Tom Cullen steps into the role of Michael, a married Protestant barrister with a penchant for defending IRA suspects. Their fateful meeting at Cushla’s family pub sets the stage for an intense and forbidden romance, with Gillian Anderson playing Gina, Cushla's mother, bringing another layer of complexity to the narrative.

A Tale of Forbidden Love

The series explores the dangerous allure of Cushla and Michael's relationship. Set in a time and place where secrets could be deadly, their affair unfolds amidst fear and paranoia, as the couple navigates a world where every whisper could have grave consequences. With its political undertones, "Trespasses" promises to be a captivating blend of sensuality and suspense.

Coming Soon

Filming wrapped up in Belfast last year, and "Trespasses" is set to make its debut with a four-episode run before 2025. As anticipation builds, both fans of the novel and new viewers will find themselves drawn to this powerful story. Screenwriter Ailbhe Keogan shared her enthusiasm, saying, “The whole scripting process has been remarkably pain-free as the team was guided by their love of Louise's stunning novel.”
