"Gen V," the much-anticipated spinoff of "The Boys," has found its newest dean of chaos in Hamish Linklater. Joining Season 2 as Dean Cipher, Linklater wasn't just shocked by the bloody and violent world he stepped into – it was the nudity requirements that truly caught him off guard.
Linklater, impressed by the dedication of the Prime Video series team, shared with TheWrap, “The meticulous notes their scripts are filled with are just mind-blowing. These are elite-level professionals you're working with every day.” Yet, amid the professionalism, Linklater navigated a peculiar challenge. "I was shocked by how many times I had to take my pants off, by the sheer volume of nudity riders I had to sign," he revealed. For those unacquainted, nudity riders are contracts that specify the terms of any intimate scenes, safeguarding actors’ boundaries and comfort on set.
The "The Boys" franchise is known for pushing boundaries, and the college-centered "Gen V" is no exception. Linklater humorously noted, "My lawyer had to write ‘side of cheek’ so many times. There’s like special lawyer language for top of butt… I learned a lot about nudity riders, that’s for sure.”
In his role as Cipher, Linklater adds layers to the show's narrative, presenting a seemingly benign character with hidden telepathic powers. This revelation in Episode 4 proves he's no mere mortal. "I watched the show and I was like, ‘No f—king way, what’s happening?’” he said, praising the show for its character development. The series cleverly turns character weaknesses into strengths, drawing parallels to profound real-world issues.
Beyond the raunch and action, Linklater appreciates "Gen V" for its societal reflection. "As an actor citizen, all you want to do is be part of projects that are in conversation with the present moment," Linklater expressed. "It's very rare that you get to do that." He sees "Gen V" as not just dark and violent, but ultimately optimistic, looking towards the next generation for hope and change. "Hopefully the generation that’s watching ‘Gen V’ will join the resistance," he added.
Fans can stream "Gen V" Season 2 now on Prime Video, diving into a world as thrilling as it is thought-provoking.
