NBA veteran Jason Williams, fondly known in the basketball world as "White Chocolate," isn't one to hold back his opinions. Recently, he turned his fiery critique towards Oklahoma City Thunder guard Jared McCain and his penchant for TikTok. During a chat on the ‘Hoopin n Hollerin’ podcast, Williams went all in, questioning whether McCain's social media antics are impacting his focus on the game.
Williams didn't mince words about his take on the “TikTok era” permeating the NBA locker rooms. “Should he delete the TikTok account? It is a big deal,” Williams pointedly asked. "If I’m in the locker room and I come out of that motherf***ing shower and I see Buddy over there doing a TikTok dance in the motherf***ing locker room, that’s a problem. Maybe that’s why they don’t want vets in the locker room because it’s a TikTok era now.”
Williams didn't stop at McCain. He compared him to none other than LeBron James, underscoring the difference between a seasoned vet and a rookie making waves on social media. "Do you realize Bron is the best of the best? He can TikTok whenever… This boy right here can’t do nam of that," Williams explained. "If he wants to stay in the NBA for 10, 11 years, he better get his sh*t together."
“Do you realize Bron is the best of the best? He can TikTok whenever… This boy right here can’t do nam of that,” Williams stated.
The critique comes just as McCain is adjusting to new surroundings. On February 4, the Philadelphia 76ers traded him to the Oklahoma City Thunder in exchange for draft picks. Since the move, McCain's struggled to find his groove within the team. In a recent game against the Lakers, he managed seven points and three rebounds in 14 minutes on the court, a slight improvement from his quieter performance versus the Houston Rockets on February 7.
While McCain's colorful personality and on-court style have earned him a notable social media following, Williams and others believe his true focus should remain on elevating his game performance.
