Michelle Williams and Jenny Slate have been making waves with their comedic chemistry on the FX series "Dying For Sex." At the New York City premiere, Slate opened up about a particularly memorable scene with Williams that left them both in stitches. The moment involved a rather NSFW line that had Slate "laughing so hard," she wondered if they had even managed to capture a usable take.
"We had a lot of fun on set," Slate shared, emphasizing that despite the comedic moments, the duo also shared "caring moments" to ensure they were both comfortable while filming intense scenes. She recalled a specific day when Williams delivered the line about being "a wee bit dry in her vagina," which triggered uncontrollable laughter during filming.
"Michelle's voice that she was doing, it's just one of those moments where you can't stop giggling and you might ruin the take," Slate reminisced.
The series "Dying For Sex" is inspired by the poignant real-life journey of Molly Kochan, who chose to explore her sexual desires after being diagnosed with Stage IV metastatic breast cancer. It draws from the Wondery podcast Kochan created alongside her friend Nikki Boyer before her untimely passing in 2019. In the show, Williams portrays Molly, while Slate takes on the role of Nikki.
The ensemble cast is rounded out by talents like Jay Duplass, Rob Delaney, and Sissy Spacek. Boyer, an executive producer, praised Slate for her heartfelt performance, expressing her admiration for the actress. "She's who I want to be when I grow up," Boyer commented, highlighting their close friendship and Slate's impeccable comedic timing.
On the red carpet, Williams reflected on the ease of building a rapport with Slate. "It was super easy," the Emmy-winning actress remarked. "It was really not a construction project. It was just like a sort of falling into each other kind of thing."
Boyer echoed these sentiments, lauding Slate for bringing "heart, humor, and grit" to her role. "I was just so grateful that she put so much heart and soul into playing me," Boyer noted. The series, now streaming on Hulu, continues to captivate audiences with its blend of humor and heartfelt storytelling.
