Kayla Jade's reaction to HBO's Euphoria is anything but enthusiastic. The show's third season raised eyebrows with its storyline featuring Sydney Sweeney's character, Cassie, using OnlyFans to assist her partner, Nate, played by Jacob Elordi, in settling debts. As an influencer and sex worker, Jade shared her perspective on this controversial plot.
Expressing her mixed feelings, she initially took to TikTok, stating, “I would never understand the love-hate relationship that people have towards SW [sex work] on shows like Euphoria. Like, it's great having them represented in TV when they're shown as a real person who just happens to be a worker.”
However, Jade, the author behind Call Girl Confidential, criticized the show's portrayal, particularly its depiction of Cassie as lacking boundaries. “When you're showing them have zero boundaries and will do anything for a bit of money, it just reinforces those negative views towards SW,” Jade remarked.
“The vast majority would tell that guy to f off and probably report him,” she emphasized, reflecting on scenes she deemed unrealistic.
Scenes featuring Sweeney's character in a dog costume and pacifier only fueled her criticism, as Jade highlighted that such behavior is not reflective of the majority of sex workers. She pointed out the challenges real sex workers face, contrasting them with the fictional and sensationalized portrayals.
Kayla Jade is not alone in her critique. Sydney Leathers, another OnlyFans creator, also voiced her objections to Cassie's storyline, particularly the age-play elements involving baby costumes. Speaking to Variety, Leathers commented, “There’s just a lot that’s ridiculous and cartoonish about it. There’s so much that they have her doing that is not even allowed on OnlyFans, and that alone is infuriating.”
Meanwhile, Sydney Sweeney, while remaining silent on the criticism, has shared her experience with the challenging and unique scenes involved in portraying Cassie, particularly the memorable "Cassie-zilla" sequence.
