Farewell to a Musical Legend

The music world is in mourning as Limp Bizkit announces the passing of their founding bassist, Sam Rivers, on October 18. Rivers, who was just 48, left an indelible mark on the band and its fans. Known for his vibrant energy and musical genius, he co-founded Limp Bizkit alongside drummer John Otto and lead vocalist Fred Durst back in 1994. His bass lines were a staple on all six of the band's albums, including their iconic 1999 release, Significant Other.

TMZ reports that emergency services in St. Johns County, Florida, responded to a call for a “nonresponsive person in cardiac arrest.” Although the official cause of death has yet to be confirmed, bandmate DJ Lethal hinted at the devastating nature of Rivers' illness with a poignant Instagram post featuring the hashtag “#fuckcancer.” Rivers had previously battled liver disease, undergoing a transplant in 2017 which briefly led him to step away from the band.

“We shared so many moments – wild ones, quiet ones, beautiful ones — and every one of them meant more because Sam was there. He was a once-in-a-lifetime kind of human. A true legend of legends.”

Tribute and Touring Plans

Rivers' contributions to Limp Bizkit's sound and success were heartfeltly honored by the band in their tribute, recalling his unique spirit and musical genius. His legacy will live on through every note they play on stage.

Despite this tragic loss, Limp Bizkit is set to proceed with their previously announced tour dates. The band remains committed to performing in Mexico and across South America as part of their Papi Gringo Tour, sharing the stage with acts like YUNGBLUD and 311. They will also tour Europe next summer, with notable festival appearances at Rock am Ring and Rock im Park in Germany.
