Mackenzie Shirilla, already serving a hefty sentence, has been anything but a model inmate. The young woman, who was convicted for the tragic crash that claimed the lives of her boyfriend Dominic Russo and his friend Davion Flanagan, has been making headlines once again – this time for her conduct behind bars. Mackenzie, who claims the crash was a result of passing out due to a chronic condition, has been struggling to secure her release, but her recent actions aren't helping her case.
According to conduct reports, Mackenzie has been reprimanded multiple times for breaking prison rules. From altering her prison attire to possessing unauthorized items, her list of infractions is long. In a particularly serious incident reported in January 2025, she was found with prescription medication not prescribed to her and a "personal photo" allegedly showing drug use, which she denies. Additionally, she was caught with four nude magazine pictures, which she neither confirmed nor denied possessing.
“If [the employee] got a boner from the way I’m dressed, that’s his fault.”
Things took a risqué turn during a video call when Mackenzie reportedly bared her chest to a visitor, who reciprocated in a similarly explicit manner. The incident, which Mackenzie admitted to, is just one of several that have drawn attention to her time in prison. In another episode in August 2025, an officer observed an inmate grabbing Mackenzie’s butt, which she denied as being intimate.
Adding fuel to the fire, Mackenzie has also faced consequences for inappropriate comments about a prison employee, leading to a search to ensure she was appropriately dressed under her hoodie. Such behavior isn't exactly helping her reputation or her attempts to appeal her sentence. Observers and critics alike are questioning her actions and whether they reflect an unwillingness to take responsibility for her situation.
As Mackenzie continues to navigate her time behind bars, these incidents paint a picture of a rocky road ahead. What do you think? Share your thoughts below.
