The animated series Marvel Zombies is ramping up excitement with a brand-new teaser that pits Undead Ikaris against Captain Marvel in a fierce showdown. Set to premiere on September 24, 2025, the Disney+ exclusive is directed and co-written by Bryan Andrews, marking its entry into the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Phase Six.
Fans of Marvel's What If...? will recognize the undead theme, as this series builds on the zombie apocalypse first introduced in Season 1, Episode 5, "What If... Zombies?!" According to Brad Winderbaum, Marvel Studios’ Head of Streaming, "It is very much like the part 1 prologue for this giant, epic event that is coming out next year." The series shifts gears with a TV-MA rating, catering to mature audiences eager for more adult-oriented animated content from Marvel Studios Animation.
With a plot centered around a virus from the Quantum Realm turning Earth's heroes into zombies, the miniseries keeps viewers on the edge of their seats. The narrative follows surviving heroes like Ms. Marvel, Shang-Chi, and Kate Bishop as they navigate the post-apocalyptic world. Bryan Andrews hinted at hidden surprises, saying, "We hope that there are some surprises still left, so you can see the episode and go, 'What?'"
The voice cast brings back many favorites from the live-action Marvel universe. Elizabeth Olsen returns as Scarlet Witch, Paul Rudd as Ant-Man, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, with David Harbour as Red Guardian. Also reprising their roles are Simu Liu as Shang-Chi, Hailee Steinfeld as Kate Bishop, Awkwafina as Katy, and Iman Vellani as Ms. Marvel. The series will also feature Randall Park as Jimmy Woo, Dominique Thorne as Riri Williams, Wyatt Russell as U.S. Agent, Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie, Hudson Thames as Spider-Man, and Todd Williams as Blade.
Preview footage shown at a Disney event showcased intense scenes, including a fight between Shang-Chi, Wenwu, and Katy against a horde of zombies. While the Ten Rings save Shang-Chi, Wenwu succumbs to the infection, setting a dramatic tone for the series. The footage also hints at a time jump where a wasteland serves as the battleground for Shang-Chi and Katy combating biker Skrulls.
Executive producers like Zeb Wells, Bryan Andrews, and Marvel bigwigs Kevin Feige, Brad Winderbaum, Louis D’Esposito, and Dana Vasquez-Eberhardt ensure that Marvel Zombies is a high-stakes series packed with action and suspense. With all four episodes dropping simultaneously on Disney+, fans can eagerly dive into this next chapter of the MCU.
