In a case that has drawn significant attention, OnlyFans creator Michaela Rylaarsdam has been sentenced to four years in county jail after pleading guilty to involuntary manslaughter. The charges stem from a tragic incident in April 2023, involving the death of her client, 55-year-old Michael Dale, during a BDSM-themed session.
The encounter, which was meant to be a filmed session for her OnlyFans platform, turned fatal when Rylaarsdam encased Dale in plastic wrap and employed other restrictive measures. According to court documents, she also glued his mouth shut after inserting a sex toy, as per his request, and placed a bag over his head, a detail not requested by Dale. When Rylaarsdam noticed Dale was not breathing, she called 911, but it was too late.
Following her arrest in 2024, Rylaarsdam faced a second-degree murder charge, which she later reduced by pleading guilty to involuntary manslaughter on May 6. At her sentencing on June 10, she addressed the court, expressing remorse and the emotional turmoil she has experienced since the incident.
“When something bad happens, we need to take ownership,” Rylaarsdam said, acknowledging the impact of her actions and setting an example for her children by facing the consequences.
Court TV also reported that during the preliminary hearing, a roommate of Dale revealed that Dale had offered Rylaarsdam money to halt the encounter. Despite this, the session continued, leading to its fatal conclusion.
At the sentencing, Superior Court Judge Brad Weinreb noted Rylaarsdam's acceptance of responsibility but emphasized the gravity of her actions. "The actions were so reckless that death was almost certain," he stated, underscoring the preventable nature of the tragedy.
Rylaarsdam's attorney commented on her remorse and the therapeutic steps she has sought since the incident. Although sentenced to four years, it is likely that Rylaarsdam will serve just over a year, considering her time already spent in custody.
