Shockwaves are rippling through the small town of Longview, Oregon, after the arrest of Jeremy Peter Williams, the 49-year-old principal of Rainier Junior/Senior High School. Williams was taken into custody on Tuesday, charged with serious offenses related to child sexual assault material (CSAM).
According to the Cowlitz County Sheriff's Office (CCSO), Williams faces charges for dealing in and possessing depictions of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct. This arrest followed a meticulous investigation launched by Cowlitz County detectives in late August.
The investigation ignited on August 28, 2025, when detectives received a series of alerts from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. The reports flagged multiple instances of CSAM trafficking linked to Williams within the county.
Key evidence was sourced from social media activity that matched hash values tied to known CSAM. "Hash matching is a digital process where a unique 'hash' is generated for a digital file using a hash function. This hash is then compared against a database of known hashes," explained a representative from the CCSO.
Detectives secured search warrants and subpoenas, corroborating the connection between the incriminating accounts and Williams. His arrest was swiftly followed by the confiscation of his phone, computers, and other digital storage devices for further scrutiny.
After Williams' arrest, he was booked into the Cowlitz County Jail. Notably, the CCSO stated that there is no evidence suggesting involvement of any students from the school district.
“While the investigation's findings are disheartening, we want to assure the community that no district students are implicated,” said a CCSO spokesperson.
Adding to the complexity, the Rainier School District revealed that Williams had been on paid administrative leave at the time of his arrest for an unrelated issue.
The community now grapples with the news, looking to local authorities for reassurance and clarity in the wake of these troubling revelations.
