In a significant legal development, Douglas Decuir, a 44-year-old from Prairieville, has been sentenced to 30 years in prison. This comes after Decuir pled guilty to a series of child sex crime charges, including two counts each of second-degree rape, indecent behavior with a juvenile, and possession of child pornography involving victims under the age of 13.
The case against Decuir originated from a comprehensive investigation launched in September 2021 in Gonzales. The District Attorney, Ricky Babin, confirmed that a plea agreement was reached, ensuring Decuir's admission of guilt and subsequent sentencing. This agreement aims to deliver justice for the victims while sparing them the ordeal of a trial.
"This plea agreement is a crucial step in delivering justice and protecting our children," stated District Attorney Babin's office.
Judge Steven Tureau delivered the sentence, offering Decuir credit for time served and ordering surgical castration as part of the plea deal. Moreover, Decuir is mandated to register as a sex offender, highlighting the seriousness of his offenses and the ongoing efforts to safeguard the community.
The case began when Gonzales police responded to a reported sexual assault at a residence on September 15, 2021. After interviewing two young girls, detectives gathered enough evidence to arrest Decuir, leading to the charges and eventual sentencing.
