RB Leipzig's promising forward, Ayodele Thomas, is making waves not only in club football but also on the international scene. Despite having represented the Netherlands at youth levels, Thomas is keeping his international future open, hinting at the possibility of suiting up for Nigeria's Super Eagles.
Thomas, who recently joined the German club, is eligible to switch his national allegiance due to FIFA rules. Though he's donned the Dutch jersey at U-15 and U-19 levels, his ties to Nigeria remain strong, leaving the door open for a senior-level debut in green and white.
“Representing Nigeria is a prospect he finds exciting, as it connects him with his heritage and offers a path to senior international football,” a source close to Thomas reveals.
Born and raised in the Netherlands, Thomas hasn't forgotten his Nigerian roots. He bolstered speculation about his international allegiance with a visit to Nigeria in 2025, where he publicly sported the national team jersey. His decision, however, is on hold until he secures a spot in RB Leipzig's first team, according to his camp.
If Thomas opts for Nigeria, he would follow in the footsteps of Netherlands-born players like William Troost-Ekong and Tyronne Ebuehi, who have successfully made the switch to the Super Eagles. As it stands, his performance and development at RB Leipzig will be pivotal in determining the right time for his potential international debut with Nigeria.
