The adult comedy 'Mastiii 4', starring Riteish Deshmukh, Aftab Shivdasani, and Vivek Oberoi, is currently in hot water following plagiarism accusations. The legal action was sparked by content creator Ashish Sharma, who filed a case in the Delhi High Court. Sharma claims that a pivotal scene in the movie closely mirrors his viral Instagram reel, 'Shaq Karne Ka Nateeja', which racked up over 11 million views since its release in January 2024.
According to Ashish, the filmmakers lifted the core idea, character interactions, and even the comedic punchlines from his reel, all without his permission or any attribution. In response, he's demanding a permanent injunction against the film’s creators, along with a financial settlement and a complete profit report for the unauthorized use of his work.
“It's a matter of creative ownership. Filmmaking should be about authenticity, not copying,” commented a close source to Sharma.
Justice Tushar Rao Gedela, who is presiding over the single-judge bench, recently reviewed Ashish's plea for urgent intervention, particularly with the film's digital release looming. The court has issued a notice to the producers, demanding a response before any interim measures are implemented. The next hearing is set for January 13, 2026.
'Mastiii 4' isn't new to controversy. Earlier, critics accused the film of objectifying women and promoting extramarital affairs. Responding to the backlash, Aftab Shivdasani clarified that the film was purely for entertainment and did not aim to convey moral lessons. "From Masti 1, people said we were objectifying women and promoting extramarital affairs. But the premise of the film was simple: three men want to have fun outside, but end up learning a lesson from their wives. We were never trying to preach. It’s all for entertainment, not to oversensitise people," Aftab explained.
Despite the ongoing legal drama, 'Mastiii 4' boasts a lineup of stars including Arshad Warsi, Tusshar Kapoor, Nargis Fakhri, Elnaaz Norouzi, Ruhi Singh, Shreya Sharma, and Shaad Randhawa. The film is expected to premiere on OTT platforms soon, allowing a wider audience to catch the controversial comedy.
