Sergey Shnurov, the frontman of the popular band "Leningrad," has made it clear that he is unperturbed by Russian artists who have chosen to leave the country. Shnurov stated that he does not see any noteworthy creative contributions from those artists abroad. "I am probably the only person who does not think about them at all. For me, this topic simply does not exist. They are adults, they made their decision, they live as they want," Shnurov remarked.
He emphasized that he is not against receiving new cultural content from these artists, but so far, nothing of interest has emerged. Shnurov observed that society seems split into two camps: one believes these artists have disappeared, and the other claims they’ve become superstars. "If they send some interesting cultural product – I will take a look, but for now, there is none," he noted.
"I focus on my own creative plans – albums, music, and concerts. Where others live doesn’t matter to me," Shnurov emphasized.
Aside from his views on expatriate artists, Shnurov has expressed support for a court decision limiting access to five of "Leningrad's" songs due to their mature content. Despite previously criticizing the ban on swearing in Russia, Shnurov appears to agree with protecting minors from explicit material.
He has candidly shared his willingness to pay fines to preserve the integrity of the Russian language, including its raw expressions. This stance aligns with his focus on creativity and pushing boundaries, even if it means facing legal challenges.
While artists like Dmitry Pevtsov urge expatriates to concentrate on their craft instead of negative rhetoric, Shnurov remains committed to his personal and professional projects. His agenda includes new music, concerts, and innovative ideas, steering clear of the drama surrounding other artists' choices.
In the end, Sergey Shnurov is focused on his own artistic evolution and less concerned with where or how others choose to live their lives. His priorities are clear – creating impactful work without getting embroiled in external controversies.
