Anthony Quigley, a 51-year-old convicted sex offender, is in the spotlight yet again, facing allegations of sending lewd Snapchat messages to a schoolgirl just hours after being released from prison. Describing Snapchat as a “safe haven for paedophiles,” Quigley’s actions have raised significant concerns in the community.
Quigley, from Roches Heights, Mitchelstown, Co Cork, reportedly sent a lewd message to a teenage girl three hours after his release from the Midlands Prison on September 17, 2025. According to evidence presented at Cork Circuit Criminal Court, he also used WhatsApp to send explicit content to a 16-year-old autistic boy. Det Garda Dave Barry provided these details to Judge Sinead Behan, highlighting the gravity of the situation.
“The fact that he reoffended so quickly after release is extraordinary,” Judge Behan remarked, emphasizing the need to address Quigley’s behavior for society’s protection.
Quigley was previously jailed for nine months on a series of charges, including an incident where he inappropriately approached a woman in her 60s. Upon his recent release, he wasted no time in resuming his offensive behavior. His Snapchat message to a 16-year-old girl altered song lyrics to make them sexual, sent under the account name SusieLol, which had 800 followers.
Despite a court-imposed ban prohibiting him from contacting minors or engaging in environments with children, Quigley used Snapchat as a means of infiltrating school children’s circles online. He admitted to using the alias 'Susie' as a decoy to gain access to these groups, a tactic he revealed during Gardaí questioning.
Judge Behan expressed deep concern over Quigley’s immediate reoffending upon release, ordering updated psychiatric and probation reports to better understand the motivations behind his actions. She firmly denied Quigley’s request for bail, stressing the importance of protecting society from his repeated offenses.
Quigley's lengthy criminal history spans back to 2003, with 68 previous convictions, including sexual assault, harassment, and sending indecent communications. As the court prepares for his next appearance on April 28, 2026, the community awaits the outcome, hoping for measures that will prevent further infractions.
