Four school employees and a police officer from Aliceville, Alabama, are behind bars following a sweeping investigation into the distribution of child sexual abuse material. According to reports, the group includes Antavious Belgrave, Lakethia Wilkins, Roderick Granger, and Winston Bishop – all linked to the same school district. The police officer implicated is Caminion Gary. Authorities have charged Granger with six offenses, alleging he saved and shared a nude photo of a student. Meanwhile, Belgrave faces twelve charges, including first-degree sexual abuse and indecent exposure.
Wilkins stands accused of exploiting her position for personal benefit, possessing and intending to distribute child pornography, and distributing obscene matter. Bishop's charges include soliciting child pornography, possession, and controlled substance distribution, along with providing drugs to a minor. Officer Gary, on the other hand, faces solicitation, sexual abuse, child pornography production, and transmitting obscene material to a minor using a computer. All five suspects are currently held in Pickens County Jail, but their pleas or legal representation status remain unclear.
“There are a lot of victims, there are a lot of victims,” Aliceville Police Chief Tonnie Jones emphasized, urging the community to pray for those affected.
The recent arrests have sent ripples through the Aliceville community, with police collaborating with multiple agencies to uncover the full extent of the abuse. Police Chief Tonnie Jones mentioned the local department's surprise at discovering one of their own was under investigation. He highlighted the significant impact on students in the district, yet declined to specify how many were affected.
The Pickens County School System acknowledged the arrests and reassured the public of their cooperation with law enforcement. They emphasized their commitment to student safety and adherence to state policies, stating, "The actions of a few individuals do not reflect the dedication, professionalism, and integrity of the many outstanding employees who serve our students every day.”
Joint efforts by the District Attorney’s Office, Aliceville Police Department, State Bureau of Investigation, and Homeland Security Investigations have been key in making these critical arrests. As the investigation unfolds, authorities are not ruling out further arrests and continue working diligently to ensure justice is served and the safety of the community restored.
