Adam Fowler, a 36-year-old from Lakeside Court in Spennymoor, has been sentenced to six years and four months for a string of disturbing sexual offenses involving two teenage victims. Fowler's crimes came to light after he approached a teenage girl with the idea of creating explicit content for OnlyFans, a platform known for adult content, suggesting they could "make a fortune." His alarming actions didn't stop there; Fowler also paid the girl for explicit videos, and when his proposition for sex was rejected, he resorted to inappropriate physical contact, as reported at Durham Crown Court.
The court heard that Fowler had initially reached out to the girl, offering money in exchange for nude pictures and explicit videos featuring her and her boyfriend. Fowler had been paying "tens of pounds" for these videos. However, his criminal activities extended beyond solicitation. He faced 11 charges, including creating indecent images of a child, paying a child for sexual activity, and inciting a child to partake in sexual acts. One particularly disturbing charge involved sending a sexually explicit video to another girl, with an emoji strategically placed over his private parts.
“He’s a man of previous good character, an industrious, hard-working man, who is now experiencing custody for the first time at the age of 36." - Johnny Walker, Fowler's defense
Fowler's criminal behavior first caught the attention of authorities in 2022, leading to his arrest. However, after being released under investigation, he continued his illicit activities, downloading more indecent images which were later discovered on his devices during a subsequent arrest. Judge Deborah Sherwin highlighted the "significant" age gap between Fowler and his victims, condemning his opportunistic behavior. She imposed a series of restrictions on Fowler, including mandatory registration as a sex offender and a Sexual Harm Prevention Order limiting his future internet use.
In addition to his prison sentence, Fowler is prohibited from contacting his victims for ten years, as per restraining orders granted by the court. Judge Sherwin issued a stern warning that any future sexual offenses would result in even harsher consequences. Fowler's defense attorney, Johnny Walker, acknowledged the gravity of Fowler's actions, expressing his client's remorse and the "heartfelt apologies" he wishes to extend to his victims.
The court's decision underscores the severity of Fowler's offenses and serves as a cautionary tale about the consequences of exploiting minors for personal gain.
