'South Park' enthusiasts were taken by surprise when the beloved animated series wrapped up its 27th season after only five episodes. The season was originally slated to include ten episodes, yet it wrapped up unexpectedly with the episode titled “Conflict of Interest” airing on Sept. 24. Fans eagerly awaiting the sixth episode on Oct. 17 were met instead with the premiere of Season 28.
The reasons behind the sudden end of Season 27 remain unclear. The season was marked by an unusual schedule, with episodes airing every other week, and faced a three-week hiatus between the fourth and fifth episodes due to unforeseen delays. Despite reaching out to Comedy Central, NJ.com has yet to receive a comment on this abrupt conclusion.
“This show hasn’t been relevant for over 20 years,” quipped White House spokesperson Taylor Rogers, taking a stab at the satirical series.
Despite its shortened run, Season 27 enjoyed a ratings spike, hitting viewership highs not seen since 1999. The season made waves with its bold parodies of President Donald Trump, including a storyline that humorously paired him with Satan. However, controversy struck when the second episode, "Got a Nut," was pulled from Comedy Central after the assassination of Charlie Kirk.
Without missing a beat, Season 28 picked up the narrative threads left by its predecessor, continuing the provocative tale of Trump and Satan. The premiere episode explored billionaire Peter Thiel’s ideas about the antichrist in a daring and NSFW manner, portraying an outrageous conception involving the two figures. Meanwhile, fans can look forward to the next episode, scheduled for Oct. 29, with Paramount+ offering streaming the following day.
