A teenager from the Sault area is facing hefty legal consequences after an altercation turned violent, sending an adult victim to the hospital. The incident unfolded on the 400 block of Albert Street West, prompting a swift police response after a report of an assault was received just after 1 p.m. on April 15.
Upon arriving at the scene, the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service conducted a thorough investigation. According to police findings, the 15-year-old accused struck the victim, who was known to them, with an object. This attack resulted in minor injuries, and the victim required medical attention at a nearby hospital.
“An investigation revealed the accused struck an adult victim – who is known to them – with an object, causing minor physical injuries,” said police in a news release.
Following the incident, the teenager was promptly taken into custody at the scene. Charged with assault with a weapon and failing to comply with a sentence under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, the young individual remains in custody awaiting a bail hearing. This case highlights ongoing concerns about youth crime in the region and the role of the justice system in addressing such issues.
