The tech giant Apple made waves in the app world by momentarily pulling Telegram from its App Store. This swift action came following reports of content that breached Apple's stringent rules against child sexual abuse material.
Apple was quick to address the situation. "We briefly removed Telegram from the App Store after our review found content that violates our strict guidelines prohibiting child sexual abuse material," the company stated, as reported by Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. Fortunately for Telegram users, the app made its return after developers swiftly removed the offending content and banned the responsible user.
Telegram didn't stay silent on the matter. Responding to Gurman's post on X, the app linked to its Safety Overview, outlining its own efforts in moderating content that breaks its Terms of Service.
“I'm sure this stance will be applied equally to all other apps in the store, in the future right?” Telegram cheekily quipped, tagging Apple's official account.
Further driving their point home, Telegram's main page featured a playful reference to its resilience, stating, "reports of my demise are greatly exaggerated," complete with a cheeky apple emoji.
This isn't Telegram's first tango with App Store controversies. Back in 2018, Apple pulled the app due to "inappropriate content," only to restore it once matters were resolved. This latest episode adds another chapter to the ongoing saga between the tech titan and the messaging service.
As the digital landscape continues to evolve, both companies seem set on maintaining their policies – and their sense of humor.
