In Memphis, Tennessee, 24-year-old Alexis Duncan has been taken into custody for allegedly distributing child sexual exploitation content using the messaging platform Kik. On Wednesday, Duncan was charged with two counts of Aggravated Sexual Exploitation of a Minor and is now detained at the Obion County Jail.
The arrest follows a cyber tip received by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) on March 18. The alert, from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, flagged potential child sexual abuse material linked to a minor. The TBI's Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force identified Duncan as the distributor of this content on Kik, leading to swift action by authorities.
Following the tip-off, TBI agents, along with the Obion County Sheriff's Department, executed a search warrant on March 19 at Duncan's home. During the search, investigators confiscated several electronic devices for further examination.
"This case underscores the importance of vigilance and swift cooperation between child protection agencies and law enforcement," a TBI spokesperson stated.
Amidst ongoing controversies, Kik, once a popular messaging app now alleged to facilitate predatory behavior, is facing increased scrutiny. This case highlights the need for rigorous monitoring of digital platforms to safeguard vulnerable users.
