Kane Batey, 26, from Wythenshawe, has been sentenced to seven years and four months in prison for grooming a minor on TikTok. The Manchester Crown Court ruled against Batey on March 6, 2026, following an investigation by Greater Manchester Police that revealed his predatory behavior.
Operating under the pseudonym 'K', Batey targeted a vulnerable young girl, coercing her into sharing indecent images of herself. He initially contacted her on TikTok before moving the conversation to WhatsApp, where the threats escalated. He warned her, "If you don't do what I say, I'm going to find you, I'm going to hurt you and I'm going to hurt your family."
The case came to light in March 2025, when officers from Durham Constabulary received reports of inappropriate messages from an older man, not the 19-year-old Batey claimed to be. The victim's bravery in contacting authorities led to the seizure of Batey's phone and his eventual arrest on April 9, 2025.
Batey's denials fell flat as he was confronted with the evidence during police interviews. Despite his claims of innocence and insistence that the messages weren't his, Batey pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including making indecent images and inciting a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity.
Detective Constable Martin Fox, from GMP's Online Child Abuse Investigation Team, emphasized the gravity of Batey's offenses. "This sentence reflects the severity of these offences and the damage this has caused to the victim," Fox stated, applauding the victim's bravery and assuring continued support from specialist officers.
“Batey used his social media platforms to exploit a vulnerable young girl for his own benefit and this outcome sends a clear message that such behavior will be met with firm consequences.”
The court also imposed a lifetime Sexual Harm Prevention Order on Batey, restricting his access to minors and devices capable of storing images, providing a measure of safety and peace to the victim and her family. Greater Manchester Police remains resolute in its mission to protect communities and pursue justice for victims of such egregious acts.
