ASMR – or autonomous sensory meridian response – has been a mainstay on the platform for several years, offering soothing sounds and relaxation for millions. But some creators have crossed into more risqué territory, and YouTube isn't having it.

The crackdown was first reported by 404 Media, revealing that channels like Slight Sounds, RoseASMR, and Its_Bunnii have been terminated. These creators woke up to find their channels wiped from the platform, with YouTube citing violations of its "sexual content" policies. This sudden move has left many creators scrambling to understand the implications for their careers and income streams.

Creators Speak Out on Content Removal

Slight Sounds, a significant name in the ASMR community, shared their dismay with 404 Media, describing the impact of losing a channel that represented years of work and a primary source of income. "This has been my livelihood and my career for eight or nine years now, so getting it removed and taken away from me without warning obviously affects me financially," they said.

“Being told not only that you're not going to make money on this, but also your archive, your life's work, videos that mean so much to me and so many other people are just gone, and I can't access that. That's something that's really hard to grapple with.”

While many ASMR videos on YouTube are harmless, used for relaxation or roleplaying, the trend has also been co-opted by adult platforms. Some creators were able to exploit YouTube's guidelines, resulting in content removals that are now catching up with them.

YouTube's Broader Content Policy Crackdown

Channels flagged for hosting such content are facing demonetization as part of YouTube's strategy to improve content integrity.
