Beau DeMayo's Candid Reveal on Marvel Exit

Beau DeMayo, the creative mind behind X-Men '97, recently pulled back the curtain on a tumultuous time at Marvel Studios in an eye-opening interview with Vanity Fair. Nearly two years after his sudden departure, DeMayo revisits the events that marked his exit, including a legal battle still unfolding in the courts.

Despite having completed work on the first two seasons of X-Men '97, DeMayo was shown the door ahead of the show's premiere. Both he and Marvel have since exchanged public barbs over the circumstances of his dismissal, which remains a hot topic as the lawsuit continues to simmer.

“It was cleared...It is your personal life. As long as you're not advertising the show on your OnlyFans, as long as you're keeping it very separate from the content of the show, it's outside of their purview.”

OnlyFans Allegation and DEI Hire Perception

In his chat with Vanity Fair, DeMayo claimed that Marvel was well-informed about his OnlyFans account while he worked on X-Men '97. The studio allegedly approved it with the caveat that his personal ventures remain distinct from his professional ones.

Yet, DeMayo recounted feeling marginalized by some colleagues, who he believed saw him through the lens of a "DEI hire." Further complicating matters, he described the environment as becoming more hostile when he returned to assist with Marvel's Blade reboot, facing "racist, sexist, homophobic vibes" that left a lasting emotional scar.

Marvel's Counterclaims and Ongoing Legal Drama

Marvel has steadfastly denied DeMayo's allegations. Following his dismissal in March 2024, the studio cited an "egregious" internal investigation, which led to the severing of professional ties. Specifics of the investigation have not been publicly detailed, but Marvel sources have hinted at sexual misconduct claims, which DeMayo firmly denies.

DeMayo's lawyer, Bryan Freedman, has vocally defended his client, stating that DeMayo seeks only truth from Marvel, accusing the company of trying to stifle his voice. The legal standoff, set to proceed to trial in 2027, shows no signs of abating, as both parties hold their ground.
