Trustees' Controversial Remarks

Two trustees from the Temecula Valley Unified School District have landed in hot water for comparing shirtless teen water polo players to exotic dancers and OnlyFans creators. The uproar began when Board President Joseph Komrosky and trustee Jen Wiersma commented on a photo showing six Temecula Valley High School athletes in team swim briefs cheering for their baseball team with B-E-A-R-S! painted on their chests.

The photo, posted on the high school's Instagram page, quickly became a flashpoint after Komrosky remarked that the boys looked “one step closer to Chippendales,” and Wiersma labeled them as an "Only Fans crew.” Parent Sharon Sardina, whose son was among the water polo players, defended the teens' actions, highlighting the supportive spirit they intended to convey.

“The fans loved it, the team loved it, the baseball coach loved it,” Sardina said. “Everybody loved the support and thought that was pretty cool because that’s typically what water polo players do as far as cheering on their teams.”

Backlash and Apologies

The spirited post turned into a political storm, sparking debates over school dress codes and the appropriateness of the athletes' attire. After the incident, Wiersma shared the photo on her Instagram story with strategic black boxes and questioned if the team had become an "Only Fans crew." The post and subsequent apology were later removed.

Komrosky and Wiersma declined to comment on the matter, leaving the community divided. Some parents accused the trustees of sexualizing the students, while others argued that the photo could attract unwanted attention from predators. Komrosky reiterated his stance, calling for more stringent dress policies and discipline.

Calls for Accountability

Sharon Sardina is demanding a formal apology and even the resignation of the trustees, arguing that the comments objectified the teens to further a conservative agenda. "It wasn’t about the intent, it was about the impact and responsibility they hold as public figures," she stated.

Komrosky and Wiersma are part of a conservative majority on the board, known for backing controversial policies such as the ban on critical race theory and flag displays. As the controversy continues, the call for accountability grows louder within the community.
