BreAnn Reese Halcumb, a former volleyball coach at Randolph High School, has been thrust into the spotlight following accusations of an improper relationship with a student-athlete. According to investigators from the Bexar County Sheriff's Office, Halcumb's alleged conduct has raised serious concerns, leading to her arrest.
The case came to light on May 27 when school officials, noticing unusual interactions between Halcumb and a female student, reported their suspicions. The administration reviewed over 160 messages exchanged between February and April 2026 through the school's Student Square platform, which hinted at a flirtatious dynamic, although lacking explicit sexual content. Alarm bells further rang when Halcumb reportedly shared her personal phone number with the teen.
Details from the arrest affidavit paint a concerning picture. The student's father informed the school of his daughter confessing to a romantic relationship with Halcumb. The teen detailed two encounters: one in a park after a track meet and another during a home visit, where inappropriate conduct allegedly occurred.
“She cared about Davis but knew the contact was wrong,” Halcumb reportedly acknowledged during a speakerphone confrontation with the teen’s parents.
The affidavit further alleges that Halcumb coached the student on how to deflect inquiries about their relationship. Despite the student being 18, Texas law strictly prohibits educator-student relationships, a rule Halcumb is accused of violating as she prepared to leave Bexar County for a new teaching role.
Randolph Field ISD responded promptly, notifying law enforcement and taking steps following district procedures. Halcumb, who had already resigned, was apprehended in Panola County and transported to Bexar County to face charges.
While the investigation is ongoing, district officials remain tight-lipped about further details, underscoring a commitment to student safety. The case has sparked discussions about the safety measures in place for protecting students from similar situations in the future.
