Global Crackdown: A Coordinated Effort

In a bold move against digital crime, Norway's National Criminal Investigation Service (Kripos) announced the arrest of 28 men across seven countries in a coordinated operation targeting those buying child exploitation material. Police revealed that the suspects used the cryptocurrency Monero on dark web forums to access illegal content.

According to police prosecutor Terje Nedrebo Michelsen, Kripos collaborated with six countries to orchestrate the arrests of these users. The operation unfolded in early June and saw suspects nabbed across Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, Canada, the Czech Republic, Poland, and Germany. Kripos hinted that the crackdown is far from over, with many more suspects potentially facing arrest in other nations.

“The scale of this operation underscores the international commitment to protecting children and dismantling illegal networks,” commented a Kripos spokesperson.

Technology in Crime and Law Enforcement

In a surprising twist, Europol reported that one of the apprehended was leveraging artificial intelligence to produce unlawful content. Another suspect had even victimized members of their own family. These revelations highlight the alarming ways technology can be misused in criminal activities, amplifying the importance of sophisticated investigative techniques.

Kripos also shared that thanks to technological advancements made in 2025, they developed methods to trace cryptocurrency transactions in specific investigations. This capability proved pivotal in identifying and apprehending suspects.

Protective Measures and Future Actions

The operation not only led to these arrests but also ensured the safety of three children. Authorities celebrated the safeguarding of these young lives as one of the operation's most significant outcomes. Furthermore, law enforcement seized over 460 items, including electronics, crypto wallets, drugs, and substantial amounts of doping substances, marking a significant blow to these illicit operations.

As the investigation continues, authorities remain vigilant and committed to pursuing justice for victims. This effort underscores the global resolve to combat child exploitation and the evolving nature of digital crime.
