BLUEY Outpaces Adult Dramas

For the second year in a row, the animated series BLUEY, featuring a lovable cartoon puppy from Brisbane, has topped the American streaming charts, beating out high-profile adult dramas. According to Nielsen's 2025 ARTEY Awards, announced on January 28, BLUEY claimed the title of the most-streamed show in the U.S., amassing a staggering 45.2 billion viewing minutes on Disney+. This Australian preschool sensation outdid GREY’S ANATOMY, which garnered 40.9 billion minutes, and Netflix's STRANGER THINGS with 40 billion.

The secret behind BLUEY's success? Short episodes that kids love to watch repeatedly. While adult dramas rely on lengthy binges, children's shows triumph through sheer volume of replays. As Peter Csathy, founder and chair of Creative Media, put it, “Once those kids are hooked on a show, they never leave and will not let their parents even think of leaving.”

“It's especially interesting to track the evolution of streaming and the titles that drive it year-over-year,” said Brian Fuhrer, senior vice president of product strategy at Nielsen.

Preschool Powerhouses on Top

BLUEY isn't alone in its dominance. Other children's content like BLIPPI, COCOMELON, MS. RACHEL, and DANNY GO! are also making waves. Ms. Rachel, a YouTube superstar turned Netflix star, took the streaming world by storm. Her show ranked as the seventh most-viewed on Netflix for the first half of 2025, surpassing adult-oriented series like SIRENS and GINNY & GEORGIA.

Meanwhile, DANNY GO!, created by Daniel Coleman, has become a dance-and-learn sensation, with episodes debuting on Netflix in April 2026. BLIPPI, known for his vibrant outfit, consistently pulls in half a billion YouTube views monthly and streams on multiple platforms, courtesy of Moonbug Entertainment, which also owns COCOMELON.

The Family Affair

A significant factor behind this trend is the influence of family audiences. Shows like BLUEY appeal to Christian parents by portraying realistic family values and avoiding cynicism. Such family-friendly content is becoming increasingly crucial, especially as the Parents Television and Media Council reports a significant imbalance in the ratio of adult-only content to family-friendly shows.

Families are making their voices heard through their viewing habits, prompting streaming services to take note. As Brian Fuhrer highlighted, “What is undeniable is the trajectory of streaming, and the increasing appetite for content of all kinds.”

Ultimately, the viewing preferences of families are shaping the future of streaming, with platforms eager to capture the attention of the youngest viewers, who are, perhaps unknowingly, influencing Hollywood's next big moves.
