Manchester's medical community is in shock as Dr. David Vargas Lowy, a respected pediatric neurologist, stands accused of multiple sexual assault charges. The indictments, involving at least three patients, paint a troubling picture of alleged misconduct at his office on Elm Street.
Dr. Vargas Lowy faces eight charges, with allegations ranging from pattern aggravated felonious sexual assault to falsifying evidence. The initial spark for these accusations came in September 2025, when a report emerged about an alleged assault on a 17-year-old female during a routine office visit. He has pleaded not guilty to all charges, including those of felonious sexual assault and falsifying physical evidence.
The prosecutor's office has hit Vargas Lowy with five felony charges and three misdemeanors, further complicating his legal battle. The state Board of Medicine has temporarily suspended his license, triggering an in-depth investigation and a pending final hearing.
“Altering medical records to impair investigations is a serious claim that stands at odds with medical ethics,” stated a representative of the Board of Medicine.
An arraignment and bail hearing are set for May 15 at Hillsborough County Superior Court, positioning the legal spotlight firmly on these serious allegations. Meanwhile, the Board of Medicine’s Division of Enforcement has been alerted to complaints from two other former patients.
The December charges stem from accusations of inappropriate physical contact with the 17-year-old, and an alleged attempt by Vargas Lowy to "alter medical records of a minor patient" to undermine the investigation's integrity. Another patient has come forward, claiming assaults occurred between December 2018 and October 2020, leading to charges of aggravated sexual assault for acts against a girl under 16.
The indictment also includes misdemeanor charges linked to the assault of an adult patient. As more details emerge, the case continues to draw attention, casting a shadow over the medical profession in Manchester.
