Rock Legends Roll Out 'Foreign Tongues'

NEW YORK – The Rolling Stones are once again making waves with their upcoming 25th studio album, Foreign Tongues, set to drop on July 10. The legendary rock band kicked off the buzz on May 5 with a teaser featuring two bluesy new tracks: "In the Stars" and "Rough and Twisted." The anticipation reached a fever pitch when Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, and Ronnie Wood touched down in Brooklyn's Weylin in Williamsburg for an exclusive launch party.

The historic, cavernous space – once a bank and now a venue – came alive with projections of the Stones' iconic tongue-and-lips logo. Guests mingled over hors d'oeuvres and sipped on cocktails crafted with the Stones' own Crossfire Hurricane rum, soaking in the vibrant atmosphere.

The highlight of the event was undoubtedly the spirited conversation between the band and superfan Conan O'Brien. With his trademark wit, O'Brien quizzed Mick Jagger on how he maintains his youthful voice at 82. Jagger humorously credited "practice" before O'Brien jokingly declared the session an "intervention."

“Oh, God, not another one!” Jagger exclaimed, raising his hands with a laugh.

Next, Keith Richards, also 82, delved into the magic behind his legendary guitar riffs, playfully apologizing to the crowd for occasionally inaudible responses due to his animated use of the microphone. "You can’t write 'em, you can’t force 'em – they come to you," he mused.

A Collaborative Masterpiece

Foreign Tongues marks a significant milestone as the Stones' first album since 2023's award-winning Hackney Diamonds. Recorded in London, the album reunites the band with producer Andrew Watt and features a poignant performance from late drummer Charlie Watts on "Hit Me in the Head." The track, as described by Jagger, is "real fast, like a punk rocker" and highlights Watts' stellar drumming.

Steve Jordan, handpicked by Watts before his passing, takes up the mantle as the band's current drummer. Meanwhile, the album boasts an impressive list of guest artists, including Paul McCartney, Steve Winwood, Robert Smith of The Cure, and Chad Smith from the Red Hot Chili Peppers. According to Jagger, McCartney was keen to collaborate from the get-go, facing no intimidation in joining the rock legends.

Creative Vision and Humor

The album's artwork, designed by Nathaniel Mary Quinn, creatively merges the band members' faces into a single striking image, dubbed by Jagger as "Mr. Ugly," with Wood chiming in, "It’s made to look like Mick!"

Throughout the event, the Stones emphasized their ongoing evolution, showcasing their diverse musical prowess on the 14-track album. "The Stones is a rock band, but the Stones also has the ability to do ballads and country music and dance music," Jagger stated, highlighting the band's eclectic range and enduring ambition.
