Allegations of threats, violence, and abuse have surfaced, with some creators detailing harrowing experiences. The case of Rebecca, a creator from South Wales, is particularly chilling. She recounts joining an agency expecting support, only to face abuse and threats, including an attack in her home by masked men. "They were lovely at the beginning," she told the BBC, before describing how her managers became controlling and abusive.

“They promised empowerment, but all I found was control and fear,” Rebecca shared, capturing the sentiment of many creators caught in similar predicaments.

The Digital Pimping Racket

The term "manager" is under scrutiny. The investigation highlights how these so-called managers pressure creators, enforce financial control, and even resort to violence – a far cry from legitimate management. The BBC spoke to 60 UK creators and infiltrated an enormous Telegram group, OFM Empire, with 24,000 members. The group shared strategies for dominating creators' accounts and using coercion for profit. Contracts reviewed by the BBC reveal managers imposing hefty fees and controlling creators with threats of violence. Such practices have been slammed by the UK's independent anti-slavery commissioner, Eleanor Lyons, as clear signs of exploitation.

The promise of empowerment on OnlyFans is overshadowed by these exploitative practices. The platform, intended to give creators autonomy, has inadvertently facilitated new forms of exploitation. Creators like Leanne have found themselves pressured into making content against their preferences, with managers disregarding their stipulations and selling videos for far less than agreed prices.
