In an interview with Vanity Fair, the actress shared her thoughts on Cassie's journey, which involves becoming a model on OnlyFans, a subscription-based platform, following her marriage to Nate, played by Jacob Elordi. Sweeney explained, "From the very beginning, you can see that Cassie has this need to be loved."

Her character's motivation stems from a deep desire for validation and recognition, according to Sweeney. "She doesn't know how to love herself unless someone else loves her," she added, noting that Cassie was more thrilled by the attention than anything else. The idea of people knowing and loving her gave Cassie a sense of escape from her small world.

Discussing her collaboration with show creator Sam Levinson, Sweeney revealed how he approached her about Cassie's nude scenes. "He sent me all the scripts and it already had all of Cassie's scenes in it, the OnlyFans scenes," Sweeney recounted. "He asked me how I felt about it, and I told him, 'Look, I'm playing a character,'" Sweeney explained.

Though she doesn't personally agree with all of Cassie's choices, Sweeney expressed her commitment to bringing Levinson's vision to life. "I'm an actor and that's my job," she stated. Her aim is to portray Cassie in the most vulnerable and intense way possible, staying true to the character's complex narrative.

When asked about the character she relates to the most, Sweeney admitted that most people are unaware of who she truly is, which is why she enjoys acting. "The whole point of acting is being able to play all these different characters. It wouldn't be fun playing myself," she remarked.

Sam Levinson, known for his bold storytelling, revealed Sweeney's initial reaction to the OnlyFans storyline. He jokingly considered shooting the scenes without nudity, but Sweeney made a "fair point" by questioning the approach.
