A Lockwood, Missouri resident finds himself in hot water after accusations surfaced about sending inappropriate messages to a minor. Shawn A. Russell, born in 1985, has been arrested and charged with enticement of a child in Dade County Circuit Court. The allegations suggest that Russell was involved in explicit electronic communication with a juvenile over the course of more than three months.
The investigation kicked off on March 16, when Sheriff Ryan Robison of Dade County sought the expertise of the Southwest Missouri Cyber Crimes Task Force (SMCCTF). Russell was interviewed, and during this process, two cell phones were seized from him. Russell exercised his right to legal counsel, requesting an attorney.
With a warrant in hand, law enforcement sent these devices to the SMCCTF Digital Forensics Lab for scrutiny. On examining the first phone, it was evident that several messaging apps like Facebook Messenger, Telegram, Instagram, and Signal had been wiped clean prior to acquisition. The second phone revealed 28 records tied to the victim, including deleted items and a contact removal. The last noted communication occurred on March 4.
“It's a chilling reminder of the dangers minors face online,” remarked a representative involved in the investigation.
Authorities, with parental consent, accessed the victim's phone, uncovering approximately 92 records related to Russell. The timeline of exchanged messages stretched from November 20, 2025, to March 4, 2026, featuring explicit content, photo requests, and propositions to meet in person, all shrouded in secrecy.
One unsettling exchange had Russell responding to a query from the victim with, “Who even is this,” to which he replied, “Shawn, I am bored.” Another message highlighted Russell's disconcerting remark, “I wish you were 18.” As it stands, Russell is detained at the Cedar County Jail without bond.
