The Erie woman behind the alleged prostitution ring at a Millcreek massage parlor has taken a significant step in her legal battle. Hui Hong, 55, stood before Erie County Court, facing a slew of charges, but opted for a plea deal, admitting guilt to one count of felony promoting prostitution.
In court on Tuesday, Assistant Erie County District Attorney Steve Leboski confirmed Hong agreed to the plea deal, which resulted in the dropping of several other charges. These included felony living off prostitutes, dealing in unlawful proceeds, and a misdemeanor related to promoting prostitution in a business. "The terms of the plea deal are still being finalized," Leboski added, indicating that this is far from the end of the legal saga for Hong.
Hong's arrest on May 7 was the result of a targeted operation by Millcreek police and the Erie County DA's Office. The raid at Lucy Spa, located on West 26th Street, unveiled a trove of evidence suggesting illicit activities. Officers reportedly discovered cash hidden in various places, including $20,000 in a bag and an additional $2,900 in a steel water bottle. Condoms were allegedly found concealed within the spa's ceilings.
"This is part of a broader effort to clamp down on illegal operations in our community," said ADA Steve Leboski.
The Lucy Spa incident is part of a larger crackdown, marking the fourth massage parlor searched this year. Previous raids have spanned across North East and Erie, with federal actions occurring earlier in January and ongoing investigations continuing in Fairview.
Despite the serious charges, Hong remains free after posting a $150,000 bond shortly after her arrest. The next steps in her case will unfold in the Court of Common Pleas, where the outcomes of her plea will be further deliberated.
As Hong's case progresses, the Erie County District Attorney's Office continues its investigations into other suspected massage parlors, keeping a tight lid on local illicit activities. Stay tuned for more updates on this evolving story.
